The West End Historic
Home tour
was held Sunday, December 14th and I went to get some ideas. Some things evident
about West End homes--like those of Ardmore--are that small kitchens and few bathrooms
are in character. Going on the conventional wisdom that huge kitchens are
good selling points did not seem to necessarily hold true in an historic home.
Also a friend advised me in reference to the functionality of a small kitchen:
Bigger
is not necessary better when it comes to a kitchen. Even fancy restaurants
manage make do with small kitchen spaces -- less walking -- better to concentrate
on kitchen organization so you have baking items close at hand where you prepare
for baking, washing/chopping area near the sink, etc. Then, of course, if you don't
do a lot of cooking.....
I concur, so will revisit restoring the original kitchen. I will, however
explore opening up the mud room/breakfast nook area.
