Welcome to 832 Carolina Avenue
According to the National Register of Historic Places, "this simple Colonial Revival house is one of several of its type built in the West End in the 1920s. It is a one-and-a-half-story brick veneer and shingle structure with a steep gable roof, a front shed dormer, and a northeast side sun room. The pent eave between the first and upper stories arches over the central entrance, providing a simple hood for it. Like other houses along this stretch of Carolina Ave., ...is reached by a steep flight of steps from the sidewalk. C. Lewis Martin and Ada Martin purchased the house in 1921...Martin was the superintendent of Indera Mills. The Martins retained ownership until 1957."
The next owner was George M. Millaway and wife Josephine. He was district sales representative for Roadway Express, Inc.
My dad, Roger C. Harper, Sr. purchased the house in 1962 when I was 10 years old. The family moved in. My brother and I grew up and moved away in the 1970's. Dad died in 1984. Mom died in 2008. My brother and I inherited the house and I bought his half from him shortly afterwards. Now, I am setting out to restore the house and make it my residence.
The menubar
The main navigation menu is an unsorted list, where each list item has been styled to be a button. There are lots of ways to style lists for navigation, but I've kept things simple for this layout. Adding "that little extra" is up to you!
