November, and leading up to it.
11/20/2008 (Yesterday) - Today, a normal speaking voice has returned and I want to proclaim myself well, but I still have some coughing fits--the type that, if in public, people nearby start getting uncomfortable. I will surely have to resume exercise soon. Tonight, Carol hosted Leigh McMillan's book signing and it was not bad--not because her usual circle of friends were any less goofy, but because Leigh and her husband Jim were so personable toward me.
11/17/2008 (4 days ago) - The chest cold persists. My voice is about gone and I'm a little annoyed by it all. But aside from that, it was a relaxed weekend. I used Carol's super powerful drill she had borrowed to attach a gutter strap to the front where the gutter was pulling to the side. Today, my cordless electric chain saw arrived. I think it will be a nice tool. Also, Leah handed off the final plans so yet another step complete. Steve gave me the name of his cabinet builder which, as I found out while chatting with him at the chili cookout, could be a less expensive way to have nice quality cabinets. Custom? Who woulda guessed?
11/11/2008 (10 days ago) - The chest cold part of my recent cold symptoms have arrived at a level much greater than the previous parts. It almost feels like a real cold. Hopefully this will resolve quickly as I have to travel to Ft. Mill tomorrow and want to be somewhat lucid and productive. Last night I stopped by Eric's to get the fliers for the cookout. Saturday should be quite full with that and band practice before that. But its all good. Discussed remodel plans with Leah yesterday. Waiting to be moved along on that. The nice thing is that I really will be moved along. Discussion of a doggie door oddly made me feel better about the relocation.
11/9/2008 (12 days ago) - Well, Obama is president, the economy is unusually bad--even though I don't feel it or see it. Leah Pegram has done plans for the home remodeling which are interesting and I'm glad she's in the mix now. I'm just calmly trudging along trying to assure myself that it's a no-loss move--I'm just moving my investments around. Also my new glasses arrived way sooner than ever in the past so I was pleased. The weather has been very nice and in a bit I will go out to Salem Lake to ride with Matt.
11/4/2008 (17 days ago) - Voting today, as I kind of expected, had no line. I had been kind of antsy about it, psyched up by all the hype myself. I voted for Obama despite disagreeing with the policies he promised, but feeling it might bring about a healing that would be worth getting past this or that inefficient direction in economics or, perhaps, foreign policy. I left work early looking forward to a little celebratory pizza, drink and television. But thusfar it is quiet and solitary on a damp and chilled evening. I started the gas coals up.
11/2/2008 (19 days ago) - This year's film festival was a good bit better. For one, I didn't have a cold. Add to that more familiarity with the event and outstanding weather it turned out great. The WiFi PDA continues to be wonderful and hotspots were all about. I jogged the actual 5k route of that race that runs past our house. On the way out of town, I got a call from the kitchen designer that Cris linked me up with. I meet with her at the house on Wednesday. I was a little preoccupied after arriving in Charlottesville with thoughts on what will unfold with this project. But now, I know, it will indeed unfold.
10/27/2008 (25 days ago) - Next I will link up with a designer/draftsman to plan the kitchen, etc. The meeting with Cris over at the house went reasonably well. I think things are certainly in motion now. Monday morning at work cranked up and it had a unusual non-Monday feel about it. Not long after my flu shot, I went home for lunch and after meeting with Cris decided to return home and finish the day here. With things going on each evening, I need to make sure I have my trip packing planned/done so that will be stress free. Need to return to the fitness center once before I leave.
10/22/2008 (30 days ago) - The Hilton Head trip turned out nice. Katie survived the stay by herself seemingly well and interacted with Pam nicely. On Monday, I took a jog and did okay. Last night we gathered at Foothills for Connie's birthday. I found myself not sleeping well. Today I took the plunge rather calmly and emailed Cris Jarrell. He responded quickly and I will meet him over at the house on Monday. Prior to that I had called Stephen and made sure he got the check. That meant no more reasons to delay. This evening, I may go to Sears and get some Land's End clothes to use my coupon I got in the mail for this week. And then I hope to go back to the fitness center to see if the equipment was updated as advertised.
10/17/2008 (35 days ago) - Here I am at Hilton Head Island totally connected with my PDA--I love this thing. This artificial resort is enjoyable but void of any depth or anything interesting or memorable--just an empty display of wealth.
10/15/2008 (37 days ago) - Okay, now William F. Buckley's son is backing Obama. So you can add me to the list with him, Warren Buffett and Paul Volker. Why not? I'm hip. Tomorrow we leave for Hilton Head and although I am looking forward to the diversion, this will be Katie's first time alone. I'm sure she'll do just as well as with Happy Dog, but I worry. I had a late notion to get a timer for the living room lamp and had a little wrangling with a terrible First Alert product I picked up at Walgreens. Carol came through this morning finding an extra mechanical one. I'm trying it out today. Otherwise, all is good.
10/8/2008 (44 days ago) - Carol's mom got lost returning home Monday and had a wreck in Ft. Mill. She was not hurt and amazingly had the wherewithall to get a rental car and return to Winston Salem to everyone's surprise. We turned in the car here yesterday so I won't have to go down and pick Carol up--she and her mom and both dogs went to Charlotte yesterday. Interesting. Nothing too eventful here. Last night, though sleepy, I went to the fitness center where I have of late been doing the eliptical for 30 min in addition to the Nautilus workout. Then I watched the debates. I gave it to Obama this time.
10/3/2008 (49 days ago) - Yesterday, Carol traveled to Cincinnati with Lilly and I took Happy Dog home with me. After work, I had a good evening that included going to the fitness center and then watching the debates. Wachovia further crashed this week but this morning there was a surprise that it will be bought by Wells Fargo which is good. I was just at the bank yesterday as the house papers came in from Stephen so I got the check ready. Today I will finally see the Bunch Law offices as I put the final step on my own buyout activity. Also, PNG put the meter on the gas at Carolina, so that was another somewhat of a wrap-up.
