February, and leading up to it.

2/7/2010 (2 days ago) - Well, it's been a pretty lackluster weekend. Rainy/snowy on Saturday but today it was fairly mild. The snow had melted but the ground was squishy. Still recuperating but not well enough to do any normal exercise. Watching the Super Bowl just now. I started a Carolina Avenue blod today.

2/5/2010 (4 days ago) - When I woke this morning, I could actually tell I had gotten a little better as far as the chest cold. It was unexpectedly snow-fallen outside. That is, I was expecting freezing rain only. Katie's vet appointment took place--I almost forgot about it thinking it would be cancelled. It was yucky and rainy throughout the day, but I stayed reasonably productive at work. Yesterday I went to the Riverrun offices and got re-acquainted to their web site and saw how I can contribute. That was good.

2/3/2010 (6 days ago) - Katie's part in the film was just one shot and I felt a little let down from my expectations, of course. But in all, I think my friends enjoyed the outing. Nick seemed disappointed to see me leave before the QA session, but I was at the mercy of my party, which I was not expecting. Katie is curled in the red chair now, oblivious to the events of the day as I watch Shiver on the Chiller station. My chest cold still persists.

2/1/2010 (8 days ago) - The netbook is so much easier to hook up to the TV than a regular laptop and the steaming technology has gotten really good. That, added to noticing that BBC plans to stream the formula 1 races online this year is making my plotting to say goodbye Time Warner more likely.
Back at work today was good. It was nice to be able to talk again. But by this evening I'm getting a little cold-like again. But much less.

1/31/2010 (9 days ago) - The sun is out but it's still a frozen landscape outside. However though going to bed feverishly and waking up with a nasty cough, I think it should be about over today. One sigh: the voice is at least manageable. Being snowed in while sick has been maddening and I only hope the solitary confinement has provided some quality time to get my mind around some things. I think I've figured out the V/B day challenge and maybe will have set some sensible priorities about the house when spring gets here.

1/30/2010 (10 days ago) - Snowed in. I guess I should not be complaining as it's Saturday with no commitments. But I wish I wasn't sick. I kind of come and go. Waking up, I felt pretty cruddy, but it was not long before I felt ok to take Katie for a walk. I started doing some shoveling, but it really is bitter cold. Low twenties. Well, let's see how to make the best of it. I will investigate Netflix online movies.

1/28/2010 (12 days ago) - It went the way I didn't want it to go. The cold, that is. Last night wasn't pleasant and my voice loss today was very aggravating. But on other matter, the final chair arrived today first thing. Then Philip arrived later and re-grouted the shower and said he would caulk it next week. Neither of those events ended up conflicting with my phone meetings. I went to the Arts Council at 4 to learn about the new successor to the 'Rama. Actually looks like a good product and I gave it a glowing approval. Nice to meet with those folks but again, the laryngitis drove me up a wall. Tonight I took a shower in the basement. It worked out very nicely and was somewhat a blast from the past.

1/27/2010 (13 days ago) - My sore throat has not developed into something totally miserable, but I'm getting kind of snotty and feeling unpleasant. Don't know which way it will go. It didn't stop me from going to the a/perature film last night and a late supper at Rana Loca. All good. Tomorrow is stacking up now with the chair delivery and Philip will come by to check on the grout. Then I have some phone meetings and possibly meet with Smitty and Richard Emmitt at the AC. They're also talking about snow coming for the weekend.

1/25/2010 (15 days ago) - The clouds dispersed as I headed down the highway and it was quite sunny by the time I arrived at Cornelius. The meeting went fine and I was rather impressed at Nate's office. Looked quite professional. I think he's probably with a good outfit there. Getting back to town, I stopped by the bank for step two. Then I needed lunch. Following that, I took a swim at the Y. Then I headed out to the post office on Healy Drive, thus going next to Home Depot where I got some new Malibu lights--black this time--and was able to get one planted to prove that they work. This morning's sore throat disappeared quickly for the day but now feels like it is returning. I have been upstairs doing some programming for work. Not really catching up, but at least finding where I need to start tomorrow.

1/24/2010 (16 days ago) - January has just about blown by at a surprizing rate. This weekend has been damp yesterday--I messed around the house, putting up the pictures back from Hampton House and thinking out the walkway in the back and studying the hall window. Today I went to the fitness center and watched Burn Notice on the TV -- rather unusual. After lunch, we practiced at Steve's and had not really fallen off much.

1/19/2010 (21 days ago) - The sale was not my cup of tea, but it was worth it this time probably just to have established Howard--the all-purpose builder guy who worked on Clare and Brad's house--as a contact. Back at work yesterday was calm. I got in touch with Bill and met him at the Twin City Diner after work to discuss my issue. Good meeting. Afterwards I jogged three laps around the park and did great. At work this morning, I called to leave a message with Tom Watts to call me tomorrow.

1/16/2010 (24 days ago) - The alarm on the phone went off at six this morning and I did not know, right off the bat, what that was all about. I translated that as a good sign I was not stressed or anticipatory about the estate sale. The bulk of the customers were at the door and it almost seemed like it was over in about an hour. But the rest of the morning continued on. At one o' clock I exercized my right to leave and did so with a little grumpiness. I was able to get in an hour on the eliptical. When I got back after 4, I ended up buying a chest and a wood stove after they had been reduced 50 percent.

1/15/2010 (25 days ago) - Well, it's Friday. You know, "everybody's working for the weekend." There was a surprise bomb in my inbox this morning. Oh well, this will help me grow. It was a cushy remote day--everytime I planned to go swimming, something came up. First, Gary showed up to--get this--finish the job. Next, I had to go pick up Carol's sister to pick up Carol's mother to pick up Carol's sister's car. Then walk their dogs. At five o' clock, I think someone turned off my PC at work.

1/13/2010 (27 days ago) - So far, so good at the new work environs. My travel time is often just 7 minutes. Yesterday was all distracted with the moving and getting settled in. Today I was a little preoccupied with my presentation. Technically, there were no problems. I was a bit nervous in doing it, but I think in the end it was a hit.
Nick called and wanted to go to Up In the Air at the Grand instead. Not big into mainstream cinema at the theaters, but this has the advantage of starting an hour earlier.
Gary poured the cement over the replaced drainpipes today and did an unexpectedly nice job of cleanup. Showerhead still remains but I think this lengthy plumbing episode is almost over.

1/11/2010 (29 days ago) - Today was a little different. It was Monday and back at work as my last full day the old place. I go in tomorrow just to direct the movers. But I got two unexpected calls. One from Gary who came over to the house today with a rented jack hammmer and the basement job may almost be finished (I better not speak!). Then Nick called and suggested we go to an Aperature movie. Then I had the band over and served wings that I got from Twin City Diner. It worked out rather nice with just a minimal amount of anxiety. Speaking of anxiety, Katie acted a bit weird.

1/9/2010 (31 days ago) - The sofa and red chair arrived yesterday making the house much more complete. However moving the desk into the center room and putting the coat rack in the hall made a noticeable difference up there as well.
Worried over the past few months that I was losing my fitness mojo had a revival this week. Each evening, Monday thru Thursday and again today I either swam, did the elliptical or jogged. And each time I felt good.
This evening we plan to go to the Aperature flick and I've already gotten tickets for everybody. I have also ordered wings from Twin City Diner for the Monday evening gathering of the band here.
Wednesday Anne with me to IKEA which was a good experience.

1/3/2010 (37 days ago) - Predictably, I didn't sleep well in anticipation of the interrupted night, but it worked out fine. Always spookingly interesting to travel about in the early a.m. hours. With the plenty of exercise yesterday, I feel okay to do little today. It is very cold outside so that makes activity a little constricted. I guess. Tried to do a little yard work. Talked to Mrs. Osborne about weatherstripping windows.

1/2/2010 (38 days ago) - For a day starting out with a feeling of "not quite right" I did well by jogging three laps around Hanes Park and then going swimming. Between the two, I went to the NC room and checked out the Harper home on Brookstown. Apparently granddad bought it in 1930. I speculated that the previous owner went broke during the stock market crash and granddad swooped in like a Harper vulture. Then it quickly became the Buchanan Apartments and it again becomes fuzzy.
Oddly I will be driving to Greensboro in the wee hours this morning to pick up Kirk at the train station. I'm ready.

1/1/2010 (39 days ago) - First day of the year and it's been a bit bland. I felt pulled away from my own activities and having to just mark time. I felt oddly tired and uninspired. We went to Cecile's open house today at three pm and I found myself loathe to be there. Oh well, happy new year.
